This is part of our Facebook Marketing for your Business series
Your Facebook status is a powerful tool when used properly and combined with a large friend list of 1000 or more people. There will be a post to follow about ways to grow your friend list through reconnecting with people and finding new friends. Make sure to read and understand Facebook's rules on requesting friends.
When posting links in your Facebook status window be sure to include the http:// before the link. This is easily accomplished by copying the address from your web browser (usually the window at the very top) and pasting it after your comment introducing the link. For example "Enter our contest for a free website at www.Zennmedia.com" will not activate the link to the website. "Enter our contest for a free website at http://www.Zennmedia.com" will activate the link allowing users to click on it and see what you are promoting. This is the most common mistake we see and one of the easiest to learn.
Other rules include no posting a link to other Facebook content and applications as Facebook has a built in +Share tool found on the lower area of the left or right column depending on the page. The share tool allows you to share the content with specific friends and to share it as a wall post to your profile which will show up in the news feed over the next day or so on your friends news view.
Proper etiquette is expected as you never know who may see it, so no adult content and watch your language. No one likes a complainer so think twice before posting angry statements. Part of our belief is to post the same message a few times over a few days, but not to over do it and annoy your friends.
Hope you found this Facebook status post useful, we look forward to your comments.
